Art Director’s New Policies

The new policies of the Art Museum, Chiang Mai University under the directorship of Faculty of Fine Arts, highlight its intention bringing liveliness and vigor to the museum. Previously, it is almost mentioned as the formula phenomenon for the sluggish museum to draw attention of people for admiring the visual arts exhibition. This is exactly complicated matters but not too excess to cope with. Consequently, the Art Museum with its new policies, intending to gradually be the lively Art Museum, has been conformed in many ways as the following recapitulations.

For its physical and environmental conditions, the Art Museum will underline its activities and exhibitions presenting name tags and descriptions functioning as the way to communicate with the perceptions and understandings belonging to the audiences. Moreover, the criticism and seminar on the exhibited art works will be raised with the set computer system providing the previous up to the present exhibitions’ information.

The senior art students of Faculty of Fine Arts will be selected to service the audiences and visitors as the volunteer curators. They will supply the visitors with knowledge and art works’ explanation during holidays.

The Art Museum’s space also offers the art library and the art theatre for all interested people as the research center contributing art and all involved knowledge. The space’s ambience will present the suited space for edutainment for all kinds of sustenance and life quality.

Partial Groups of the Art Museum’s buildings are the space such as bookstore, postcards, art works in all fields created by students, art instructors, alumni and artists for sale. This is another way to publicize and promote the creativeness of the artists and bring the opportunity for interchanging idea between people, especially the understanding of art market will be emerged as a part of social interaction.

Some shading area of the Art Museum will be utilized for musical activities such as music in Art Museum which contemporary music, jazz, classical music, outdoor performance, puppetry, and movie projection will be performed. Once, the Art Museum gave importance to the complete admixture of visual arts and other art fields. At the moment, the Art Museum is fulfilled with sweet and sound melody that bring liveliness back to the Art Museum

The Art Workshop, previously, Faculty of Fine Arts has only processed within the faculty during summer. The chairmen of the Art Museum have the aim to service all specializations of art workshops within the Art Museum’s area. This is to response with the needs of students, academicians and all people. They who are interested in art will take time to practice and enjoy these supportive activities enhancing life quality. The workshops are such as water color painting, oil color painting, portrait drawing and painting, landscape drawing, papier-mâché, flower arrangement, basic art knowledge, musical practice and all performances.

In the part of developed content of ChiangMai University’s Art Museum, the boards have agreed to raise the art and cultural seminar and the related knowledge. In every 2 weeks, those mentioned activities will be conducted at the Art Museum’s space and the Art Theatre. Besides, the Art Museum will publish Fine Arts magazine, develop Art Museum’s website which functions as the online art archives and online artist biographies plus world art exhibitions and all Art Museum’s concentrated exhibitions. The new released projects of the Art Museum’s website include Museum Online distributing art knowledge on the internet.

These are all activities provided by the Art Museum, CMU, located on Nimmanhaemintra Road, ChiangMai. This is the main important communicating street for the tourists. The half way of the street, from Amari Rincome Hotel to the cross road next to CMU’s Hall, is the crucial entertaining street of ChiangMai, well-known as the street of shopping, restaurant and many coffee shops. The rest of the street the area from the cross road next to the public health center to the Art Museum, is left deserted and sluggish. This is such a contrastive mood of living on the same street. The open space of the Art Center, CMU is recognized only as the parking lot. From now on, we attempt to develop this inert area to be the center of knowledge and life quality plus edutainment, extremely expecting this will emerge in reality with the collaboration and all supports from many institutions and organizations.
